Microsoft “Moving the world off IE6″
OK this has been going round for a while, but we’re pleased to see Microsoft are encouraging users to upgrade their web browsers from the long out of date IE6. The campaign website www.theie6countdown.com says it’s dedicated to seeing usage of IE6 drop below 1% worldwide. And that makes us very happy. We spend a lot of time testing our websites in all sorts of browsers, both on Mac and PC and while we try to maintain some backwards compatibility it would be good to see the world using up to date web browsers. Firefox and Safari regularly push updates to their users, Mozilla actively encourage upgrading.
Some advantage of using an up to date web browser:
- Access to new technologies (CSS3, HTML5, etc)
- Richer experience
- Removes security issues exploited in older versions
- See the website the way it was intended
So if you know someone still using an out of date web browser, do us all a favour and encourage them to upgrade.
