Firefox 4 / IE9 browser updates

This year we’ve seen updates to both Internet Explorer and Firefox (OK, Opera and Safari updated too). IE9 is only available to newer versions of Windows – our XP machine is left as is to test for IE6 issues. And that’s another issue – 4 possible versions of Internet Explorer all in current use.

Wired Software is highlighting some new features both in Firefox and IE. Both have a pin option for frequently used sites which keeps that tab open. “Pinned sites in IE9 are a bit like bookmarks for your Windows taskbar — handy for frequently used websites or online applications.” Firefox also has native video support for html5 video embedding.

Something we noticed about Firefox 4 however is that some add-ons that have been useful in the past like the Delicious bookmarking tool, aren’t compatible (yet / or ever?) and Firebug‘s Inspect Element seems to want to look at itself, not the current webpage.

For more on Firefox read the Wired article. The IE9 article is here.
